Positive body image is about so much more than simply liking how you look.
It’s about:
💛 Respecting your body for what it does, not just how it appears.
💛 Feeling comfortable in your own skin, even on the tough days.
💛 Moving away from constant comparison and embracing your own uniqueness.
💛 Knowing your worth is never based on appearance.
At The Foundation, we support young women to build a healthy, lasting relationship with themselves – because body confidence is about mindset, not mirror images.
1️ Social Media
Endless scrolling through carefully edited, filtered photos can create unrealistic beauty standards.
🔹 What we remind young people: Social media is a highlight reel – not real life.
2️ Peer Pressure
Friends and classmates often compare looks, diets and fitness. This can create silent, ongoing pressure to ‘keep up’.
🔹 What we remind young people: You don’t have to join in. You’re allowed to set your own standards.
3️ Family & Cultural Messages
Sometimes comments (even well-meaning ones) from family or cultural expectations around appearance can stick with us.
🔹 What we remind young people: Your body is yours – and it’s not up for public discussion.
4️ Media & Advertising
TV, films and adverts often showcase one body type, leaving little space for true diversity.
🔹 What we remind young people: Beauty is not one size, one shape or one style.
5️ Life Changes
Growing up, puberty, illness, and other changes can all affect how we feel about our bodies.
🔹 What we remind young people: It’s normal for your body to change – and it deserves kindness at every stage.
Through our Roaring4Life programme, we create a safe space to explore these topics, challenge harmful messages and build a positive, lasting sense of self-worth.
We don’t chase ‘perfection’.
We help young women feel good enough exactly as they are.
